Car sales decline in China - Economist

Press sources indicated that the sales of the "automobile industry" sector in China declined by 3% in May 2021, compared to the same month last year, ending a series of gains that continued for 13 consecutive months that began since April 2020.

According to data from the China Automobile Manufacturers Association, total sales in the world's largest auto market amounted to 2.13 million vehicles in May.

If we compare car sales from the beginning of 2021 until the end of May, we find that China sold about 10.88 million cars in the period from January to May, an increase of 36% compared to the same period a year ago.

In the same context, sales of electric cars continued, jumping 160 percent, with 217,000 vehicles sold in May 2021.
