Buckingham Palace announced that Britain's Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the age of 96, after a busy career throughout her reign, after a sudden deterioration in her health.
Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, in a house in London, the firstborn of Albert, Duke of York, second son of King George V, and his wife, Duchess Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
Elizabeth was educated at home, and in 1947 she married Prince Philip, who later became Duke of Edinburgh and continued his military service as a naval officer.
Elizabeth became queen at the age of 25 after she received the news of her father's death while on a foreign trip to Kenya, and in May 1953 her coronation was broadcast on television despite the opposition of then Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Charles III becomes king of Britain
Saturday, September 10, 2022, the coronation ceremony of King Charles III officially took place as King of the United Kingdom at St. James's Palace. Charles became king after his mother, Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday, September 8 at Balmoral Castle. The ceremony will also have several protocols followed by the royal family to install the new king.
