US Unemployment Claims
US Department of Labor |
The US Department of Labor reported that US jobless claims for the week ending January 29 amounted to 238 thousand applications, which is slightly lower than the estimate of 245 thousand applications, a number that is also down from the previous week's level of 261 thousand applications.
The report concludes a difficult January in which millions of Americans lost their jobs due to the impact of the coronavirus, with cases dropping sharply over the past two weeks.
Claims surged after briefly dropping below 200,000 in early December, posting their lowest total in more than 50 years.
